Ski touring is a sport which has experienced a huge boom in recent years. It involves walking up the mountain on skis, with "skins" attached to the base of the ski, and then skiing back down off-piste through untouched powder. Those new to ski touring can also try out the sport on the piste.
The Zuckerhüttl mountain and the Oberbergtal Valley are two of the most popular areas for ski touring in the Stubai Valley. After walking up through untouched nature, skiers can admire the fabulous view from the top before whizzing back down into the valley through powder fields and past remote alpine huts.
TheFranz Senn Hütte, which has been run by our dear relative Fankhauser family for decades, opens up a true ski touring Eldorado. This alpine hut is famous as one of the best basecamps in the region for ski touring throughout the winter. All in all the mountains near the hut offer more than 18,000 vertical metres of climbing and skiing for all abilities.
Guests staying at the Stubaierhof can stay one night free of charge at the hut during the winter months.
At the beginning of the year, the two 'Berghasen' Vroni and Susi visited us at the Stubaierhof. They went on a dream ski tour in the Stubaital and talk about their experience:
"In an area where you don't know your way around, finding a suitable tour is always a logistical challenge. It's good that Daniel helped us choose a tour. With his support, the decision was quickly made: the Nördlicher Daunkogel (3,075 m) in the farthest Stubaital. Looks good!"
You can read about the whole ski tour of the two ibex on their blog (german) or check it out in the Instagram post below. Thank you for your visit!
Head for the hut!
The Franz Senn Hütte hut at 2,147 m is the perfect basecamp for ski tours in the Stubai Alps.
Talk to a member of staff in the hotel about spending a night at over 2,000 metres above sea level – a unique experience!
